Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Sherman Alexie)

Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot. Heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author's own experiences, coupled with poignant drawings that reflect the character's art, chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American teen as he attempts to break away from the life he thought he was destined to live.

  1. A very easy read. I enjoyed it. My 14 year old son is reading it to. Not deep but a nice light summer read.

  3. I was impressed by how much effort he put into his education and how it did value it. S. A. throwing the Algebra book when he realized that it was the same book as his mom... is unforgettable.

  4. It's hard for kids from a district as progressive and up-to-date as ours to realize that there are schools out there that don't get new books or have computers. Maybe a reminder of what we have here???
